I like the scene archi, very tadeo ando feel to it.

Have you got bump on that concrete wall? I think a different floor would go much better with the concrete. Just my opinion - I like it a lot.

yes bamboo project shadows onto the windows...I'll try with the bamboo closer I suppose thats it. But one could imagine to improve the material properties to see the silhouette of the bamboo even if not so close. Cause in my example its not very close, but not so far. So I imagine in real conditions it should affect light passing through that "paper" window!?

Hi, I added a clarification to the original post: In my scene, the paper has no thickness, it's just a single face. Hope it helps.

Ecuadorian, you're a genious, this makes an awsome frosted light cover. i'm suggesting that this become part of the Twilight templates in the next release. how do you come up with these? who would try using wax as paper???? i wish their was some method to your madness so i could use your techniques too. :rspkt:

The other day I used a dark lampshade for burning and glowing logs...

Rocky, I scoured the Kerkythea forum for something like this until I found a post by Patrick Nieborg explaining the basic formula for a cool SSS material: Alpha 0, SSS density 0, and IOR 1.0. Patrick is the real genius here. I noticed all SSS templates in Twilight seemed to be the same material type but with different default values, so I just picked the first one in the list: Wax. With slightly different values you can get other cool results:

Csaba, that trick sounds most interesting. Could you post the details?

This material works really nicely on single pane/no thickness materials like for a quick light fixture, thanks Miguel!
It renders very slowly on 1/16" thick glass.

also, with IOR at 1= air. ;) ... so light goes right thru it. yet looks great.

I was playing around with it after downloading your fire example but I can't find the model/render any more (probably just dumped it as experimental).

I'll try to recreate and post it again.

OK, some update - I tried to quickly reconstruct what I was experimenting with back then. Here is an image with "glowing" logs and the material and light settings for the logs (I attach a log so that you can see how I placed the point light inside). The texture is a simple Template sss lampshade with a black colour (I think I should've lost its shininess completely, too). Play around with sss density, alpha of the log material as well as the colour, size and light strength of the point lights inside.
