Living Room

Post by JCA131 » Thu Sep 09, 2010 1:57 pm

A work in progress I've been playing around with for the past few days... and thanks to fymoro for sharing his awesome models.

160 passes, Easy 09. C & C are most welcome.

:rspkt: great image!
perhaps the bump on the floor is just a bit strong... the joints look great but the surface of the tile seems quite bumpy... could be perfect, I am not sure.

the material on the couch seems like it could use more study... perhaps Generic>Flat may be a good start for it? not sure really what material you want it to look like... is it velvet? is it leather?

most importantly is to get a good IES light for the downlight. There are several available around here, and thousands free on the web.

Thanks for the comments. I agree that the bump is a little much on the floor, I was worried more about the joints and the surface itself became too bumpy. I was going for a leather material for the couch and chair, but i toned it down a little and am going for a red fabric material now. Thanks fymoro for the ies, i replaced the lights and made some material changes and am rerendering the image now.

Any idea where I can find a nice bump map for a fabric?

I re-rendered with the ies lights, I think it is definitely an improvement. I also made some other small adjustments and did the PP a little differently. I also adjusted the couch/chair material a little but it is barely noticeable. Looks like I'll have to try again.

201 Passes, let it render on Easy 09 for almost 18 hours

I think it's a beautiful render, I think many people don't comment because they would have a hard time critiquing, or don't feel they are capable of doing an image of equal quality... dont' worry, it's a great image! I can tell the difference with the couch material. The bump/specular map for the floor is still needing some more study I think. Try the Procelain template at shininess of bewteen 2500-5000... and a good specular map. I've had great luck with it, and I know Fymoro has as well. (even he went to 6000 shininess.)
