For Skatter you need Pro, but for other component skattering plugins you should not. For instance "Fur" plugin or Fredo's Component Spray or his Ghost plugins should work fine.

I got the beer in the glass to render much better after I put a small emitter behind it making the liquid material improve greatly. Download the scene to see what I mean.

So basic SketchUp animation and some plugins do work with Hobby, like the standard SketchUp animation, but Animator requires something we call "external control". It allows Animator to actually execute Twilight Render calls. And that is limited to Twilight Render Pro.
