I think your ratio has to be 2x1 for your original image. So you need 1600x800.

That material is a non-physical material. If you shine a light on that material, it will actually produce more light because almost all the light is reflected by diffuse and just as much also passes through the material. PanoCube can handle spherical (lat/lon) images, directly from Twilight spherical to QTVR, but it is extremely quirky. I can walk you through it if anyone is interested.
