Re: Quick reference about IES files(to understand what's ins

yes, it's output will be for the whole light fixture. there is no IES file for a single "bulb"... but as you say, perhaps you can make one for a single LED. If so, I would put it into a spot light component, not on a light emitting suface, it will render looking great, and render faster t...

Re: Quick reference about IES files(to understand what's ins

but sometimes you need to tweak a file... and if you don't know how to do it, you are stuck. I got a LED stripe IES file, but its power settings were for an entire stripe (5m)... imagine that light in a single spot. So, I had to change the values inside the file, to fit it for a single LED on the st...

Quick reference about IES files(to understand what's inside)

Because always I had hard times with understanding and using IES files, I decided it's time to put some light in it. And also, to share with you my findings. Each field in the file must begin on a new line and must appear exactly in the following sequence: IESNA91 [TEST] The test report number of yo...

Re: How to calculate lighting power of a textured LEM ?

I'm sorry to contradict again, but normal-maps DO alter the geometry. And I am not referring to displacement here. Indeed, displacement alters geometry in a drastic manner. But normal mapping does too. Make a test: render a "moon" sphere. Or any sphere with a heavy normal map, then render ...

Re: How to calculate lighting power of a textured LEM ?

Nice results. :^: I would be very surprised that light emitting materials change their emission direction based on a normal map. You might be able to use an IES emitting texture though... As I know, normal maps alter the surface of the geometry, in opposition with bump maps who only alter the perce...

Re: How to calculate lighting power of a textured LEM ?

TEST RESULTS I used This texture as LED Stripe (colored @ 3500K: rgb 255,193,141) (forum won't let me to add more than 3 images, so I had to place this one in external link) http://s28.postimg.org/vbx5uolj1/LED_Stripe_3500_K.png LED_Stripe_3500_K.png Knowing that (this particular) LED has a power c...

Re: How to calculate lighting power of a textured LEM ?

I don't need to be VERY precise, just not to have let's say a 3x stronger illumination. Because I want to offer a solution for a client and this is for preview purpose. If it will be too bright, it may mislead the client and this is something I don't want to. I'll try a test scene with same geometry...

Re: How to calculate lighting power of a textured LEM ?

Yes, like that, Ok, this is for a LEM with full color. This applies to textured as well? Or I should calculate only the ACTUAL EMITTING areas on that texture? As you very well pointed it out on the attached render, the texture is black with dots. I assume that only the non-blacks will emit light. So...

How to calculate lighting power of a textured LEM ?

I need to emulate a LED stripe and making geometry for each LED is not an option right now (I have to use many stripes of different lengths), thus I've tried it and it's ok. What I'm thinking now is to use a texture for LEM. A black rectangle with white dots on it. But I need to be as accurate as po...
