Announcing Twilight Render V2.4

Post by Chris » Fri Jul 31, 2015 10:08 pm

We are announcing a new release for Twilight Render V2! We've added some fantastic new features as well as improving some of our standard functions.

Bugs:
  • Fixed crashing bug when adding a light using 3 non-unique points
  • Fixed crashing bug when trying to make light target itself
  • Fixed bug when recognizing SketchUp version for 2015
  • Changed how batch renders are positioned on OSX
    - We have received reports that SketchUp does not transition between scenes when SketchUp is not the focused application, on OSX. The new method uses the same mechanism as the animation renderer to position the camera. Because of this, every scene you want to render must be enabled for animation. This change only affects OSX.
  • Various small fixes to control behavior
Changes:
  • All preview settings, including scene selection, moved to the preview display
    - You will now see all the Preview controls located directly under the respective preview display. This includes a button to enable and disable the preview display, a drop down menu to choose the preview scene from, and, for Pro users, the ability to choose the maximum number of iterations for unbiased preview scenes. V2.4.3 ships with an unbiased scene for material renders. Future releases will include additional unbiased preview scenes.
  • Removed tone-mapping for preview displays
    - As per the changes above, we removed the tone mapping controls for preview displays as they were largely unnecessary.
  • Aligned various window toolbars
  • Updated Batch Renderer to included New-from-Previous and New-from-Current render settings
    - When adding new scenes, there are two buttons to choose from in the Batch Render editor. One will create a batch render using whatever configuration you have for the standard renderer. The other will create an exact duplicate of the last batch render item in the list.
  • All the Twilight Render Windows for OSX are now "full" windows and not "tool" windows, meaning complete with close, minimize, and maximize.
    - This also means that they can be hidden behind the your current SketchUp scene window. For some users, this will be a great benefit as you can now put an editor to the background and continue to work in SketchUp. For other users, this may be a surprise. To restore any editor to the front, just right click the SketchUp icon in your Dock and choose from the list of available windows (just like any OSX application).
Features:
  • Added Maximum Iterations to all the render windows to limit the number of passes to use for Unbiased renders*
    - By default, unbiased renders are set to 10,000 iterations, basically endless. The new feature allows you to set a maximum iteration count for standard and animation renders (which should be very useful with animation renders).

  • Added maximum iterations to preview display windows to support unbiased preview scenes*
  • Converted Render History over to saving High-Dynamic Range image data*
  • Added Post-Processing support for Render History images
    - Render history images (accessible from the Render window, under Settings) can now be re-opened and Post-Pro operations applied. The images can then be saved with the Post-Pro applied.

  • Added material name Auto Complete to the Template and Deep Material editors (Windows only)*
    - Windows users can now type the name of a material into the text box of either material editor to display an auto-complete list of materials that start with the typed text. Please note that after selecting a material from the list, the magnifying glass icon must be clicked on to load that material in the editor.

  • Added customizable Watermark feature for image branding in renders, animation, and batch renders*
    - Watermark images can be added to all renders (very useful for animations!) by setting a watermark image under the Settings menu of the render editors.
    Image
  • Added Per-Node Preview to Deep Material Editor to view the affects of each node separately or combined
    - When creating or editing a deep material, the preview render will now display the appearance of the selected node or branch of nodes to better gauge the effects and appearance of each material element. This feature can be toggled on and off by checking the "Node Preview" checkbox.
  • New Edge, Texture, and Face Tools! Check out our tutorial page for the new tools here*
There is a lot of new operations with these new tools. We strongly recommend you visit the tutorial page above to learn how to use them!
    • Connect, Bevel, Hard, and Soft Edges
    • Select Loop, Ring
    • Spherical, Cylindrical, and Camera Projection Texture Mapping
    • Subdivide, Triangulate, and Greeble
*New feature is for Twilight Render Professional licensed users only.
