Is AMD Ryzen 7 2700x good for new machine setup for Twilight rendering

Post by kay P » Sat Dec 01, 2018 3:15 pm

Hi,

Newbie query pls. Need your advise on buying new PC for Sketchup+Twilight rendering .

I had finalized AMD Ryzen 7 2700x (mainly to reduce cost as a hobbyist) .But someone told that this CPU is not upto mark for Sketchup ? My Original choice was or Intel Corei7 8700k CPU but changed specs as per budget.

Please guide if it is good choice. I shall be doing Interior/Architectural scenes stills ( medium /large size) for concepts .
Thanks in advance.

Cheers!
Kay

Intel Core i7-8700K vs AMD Ryzen 7 2700X
Userbenchmark
Effective CPU Speed: 107% vs 99.9%
Intel Core i7-8700K - 15th / 1139
AMD Ryzen 7 2700X - 21st / 1139

Seems pretty nice from this benchmark. 8 cores/16 threads should be great - if you have proper cooling for your CPU.

Check out our benchmark scene when you get your new rig. Don't forget to run a render using your current rig for comparison's sake.

Thanks Fletch for your prompt response!
I was worried as I saw this post in SketchUp forum as I was sitting in my PC guy shop getting it assembled... and told him to stop the build till Monday so that I may get some advice .

Here is the post (ref last comment ).

Since I am a total noob in SketchUp and Twilight , I thought it shall be better to shell out his money after seeking guidance from the helpful community here.
Regards.

That post was from more than 90 days ago, and I have no experience with Ryzen.
No one has posted any problems here about Ryzen with Twilight.
Hope you can find your answers quickly.

As far as Twilight and Ryzen, I don't know why there would be any problems... the more cores/threads the better in most cases. The only time you will see performance degredation with multiple cores/threads is if you are rendering a very small image, then the cores seem to get mixed up somehow... but on any image at 1920px wide or greater the more cores the better.

Important- I would be sure to get an NVIDIA video card -
Be sure to verify your NVIDIA card is Cuda compatible and running a driver of version 390 or greater. This gives you opportunity to upgrade to a new upcoming FastForward plugin for Twilight Pro. Allowing you to render up to 3x faster (or more).

Thanks for your response. I finally got my pc now with the Ryzen 7 CPU,16 GB ram with Quadro P620 graphics card (CUDA Cores 512,peak Single Precision FP32 Performance 1.386 TFLOPS, GPU Memory 2 GB GDDR5).

Shall update on the test results soon.

Cheers!

Posted the results there For Bauhaus Lamp . :^:

Is it possible to get a more detailed model (twilight rendering ready) of Interiors to test the speed in relatable scenarios ?

Cheers !

There are several scenes for free in the Freebies section of the forum.
Try rendering the bedroom scene, and

The splitting beam with prism is a great torture test for a render beast like you have. :^:
