Fast Forward

Post by ntxdave » Mon Mar 11, 2019 7:58 pm

KInd of a silly question but if I have a render that take about 25 minutes on 03.Low+, what would Fast Forward do for me?

FastForward is an AI denoise algorithm running on CUDA on the GPU which is optimized for unbiased images, such as Easy 08- Easy 10.
It will clean up shadow noise coming from low quality soft shadow sampling in the lower quality quick-test render settings... but that will only help after the image is already completed rendering.

Been busy today and forgot to say thanks Fletch. Your reply is greatly appreciated. :^:

BTW: I think I read somewhere before but what does the + sign as part of a Render Preset name mean?

The + sign tells you that this setting is similar to the other setting of the same name but with the addition of a "little something extra". Generally this means it has increased photon shooting/mapping or increased final gather quality and increased AA quality and sampling.
...

Thanks Fletch...……I did read the info in your link and found it very informative.

I have been using Easy 03.Low+ for my renders (see Car Wash thread) and it has been taking about 25 minutes (sometimes a little less) to do my renders. The objective is to show the equipment in a little more realistic frame rather than just the SketchUp drawing. For these renders, I am using a Spherical Sky with the background of the Kerkeythea Spotlight1.hdr for the background image with a background of 1.0, only Sun Enabled checked, and Simple settings of Exposure 1.2 and Gamma of 0.45. I also have set a very large white "ground" object below the equipment so that when the image is rendered, it will have a white background.

I tried bumping up to Easy 04.Medium once but the render time jumped up to 1:24. I would appreciate any advice you might have on how you would do these equipment renders.

I am also in the process of setting up a set of SketchUp materials (mostly colors that I am naming) so that I can achieve more consistence from one piece of equipment to another. I then plan on developing some standard "template" settings for each of the materials. Hope all of this is on the right track and welcome your feedback/advice on the best way to go about this.

I'll reply in the thread as the question is more on topic there.
