Render crashes Sketchup

Post by 0xonian » Fri Mar 29, 2019 1:01 pm

Hi,

I'm a new user to Render, having downloaded the latest version, using with SketchUp 2019 pro (30 Day trial) on Mac OS 10.13.6.

Every time I use Render (specifically the material editor) it crashes Sketchup.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Thanks

We are sorry to hear of this problem, and thank you for contacting us.

We have been having challenges with SketchUp 2019 and Mac with Twilight, we are currently working on some solutions, so it could be that your problem is related to this.

Try changing Material Editor Preview Scene or disabling the preview by clicking the green check mark under the preview window inside the material dialog.

I'm running Version 2.13.7 Professional (latest as of 8-20-2019) on a 64 bit windows platform with 32 gigs of ram, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 video card with 6 gigs of ram. Render crashes every second try regardless of resolution setting. The only way to clear it up is to exit Sketchup and reload. I get one render scene then it crashes again. So what is the work around? I have no similar issues using any other graphic programs.

Does it only happen with one particular scene or any render (like a simple scene with a box)?

You say every second try. Is this manually running or are you running a batch render?

I'm running individual only renders. It makes no difference what sketchup file I'm using. Everything from a 300k to a 75 meg file. My Twilight Hobby version was working perfectly on all files, this started when I loaded the licensed version.
I unloaded it and went back to the Hobby Version. Now the Hobby version is doing the same thing. This software is a tar baby.

I think I found my culprit ( and he is looking back at me in the mirror!). My Render crashes appear to have been caused by my graphic card. I had it set for the highest resolution. Moving it back to 50% of capacity solved my crash problems. Twilight needs to report this to their users.

So that we can correctly inform other users who experience this issue, can you please explain what setting you changed? Do you mean desktop display resolution?

I have recently had a similar problem only on some files. I can run one render. If I decide to stop it, and start again, the renderer stalls SketchUp at "resetting render engine" and I have to force quit. I am usually using Easy 09 and 10 settings. This seems like a new problem. Only the last month or so.

(I wouldn't know how to make that 50% reduction based on the statement)
