Faceting

Post by pbacot » Wed Jun 05, 2019 8:34 am

Why is Twilight doing this to geometry that has been OK before? How can I stop it?

make sure it is within group or component and smoothed (I'm guessing it already is, but I have to be sure)
Update to latest version of Twilight to make sure. I think there may have been this bug in one release.

Thank you. I grouped and also smoothed and grouped (exploded smoothed and grouped- actually saved the component and worked on it in a separate file because I wanted to avoid having to replace all the components in the file). I'll check for updates.

Sorry, no. I went along . I tried grouping and regrouping re-softening. The model has been used many times before. Maybe that car is too old! Certainly could use something more high-end. It's only a part that seems to look bad in the rendering.

I saw this in another model for a vase, and I couldn't stop it there either. So it made me curious.

I have version 2.12.15 for Mac, and we were re-installing back and forth (i.e. going to older versions) trying to solve Mac problems, so I was unsure whether I should be installing something newer before checking.

Are you using SketchUp 2019?

Seem to recall a Twilight user posting about this on the SketchUp Forums. They found a work around by checking the "weld vertices" box in the Advanced tab of Twilight"s Material Editor if memory serves me right. Worth a try...... :!

Yes and the instances where this has occurred are after moving to 2019, I believe.

This may (probably) be a problem with SketchUp 2019 for MacOS. It's part of the bundle of problems we are seeing with SU2019 MacOS. We are working with SketchUp to get it resolved; we don't yet have an update that can be used to fix those problems.
