Distortions in Panoramic view

Post by pbacot » Tue Jan 28, 2020 5:11 am

Probably nothing to do with Twilight.

Is there any way to adjust distortion at edges of view in a panoramic shot?

I used a 2:! Spherical camera and It seems to work well in Pano2vr and posting to "RoundMe" but there is a lot of stretching distortion at the sides of the view. Does anyone know if there is a way to correct this? I sort of expect this, but it may be off-putting to others.

There does not appear to be distortion in the rendering. This is the nature of a flat display trying to "fool" the eye.
To reduce this parallax effect you could try a shorter focal length before you render. Try 35mm-50mm focal length. If you use wide angle view (~21mm), then the parallax distortion will be more pronounced.

If you were to "lock" the spherical image viewer to maintain an eye level parallel to the horizon there would be no distortion. However, when we look up or down this distortion happens naturally (stand next to a skyscraper and look up for pronounced real-life example)

Thanks! Yeah I didn't think of the field of view. I notice if you "back up" it gets worse.

This Neural Network Performs Foveated Rendering trying to match how the human eye works... focusing on a narrow point, and "filling in" around it.
