Crashes with translucent material applied

Post by 3mily » Wed Dec 15, 2021 10:54 pm

I have SketchUp 2019 and have been trying to render scenes with a lamp. When I apply a translucent material setting to a lamp shade and render, SketchUp crashes. Not the bug splat kind too.

I've tried a new test file with thinking there was a bug with my original file, but same thing.
Can anyone help me figure out why?

Can you give following info:
  1. operating system
  2. version of Twilight Render
  3. are you using FastForward Denoise addon for Twilight?
Sorry to hear you are having of this problem.
That is strange.

Can you send me a link to the scene where I can download and test?

If you open SketchUp Extensions manager and temporarily disable all other extensions, excluding Twilight Render, and try to render, does it still crash?

My operating system is MacOS big Sur V. 11.6.1
I'm using Twilight 2.15.11 Hobby. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the extension on SketchUP
I'm not using FastForward Denoise addon.

I usually render on 09. Interior.

Here is the link to the file:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qHsrKU ... sp=sharing

I applied the Shade settings under the Translucent in the material library and kept the default settings

It works when I turn off all the other extensions. Does this mean I have to this every time? That seems quite annoying

No, it means that there is some conflict with another extension. If we can figure out which extension, then we can contact the developer of that extension and fix the problem.

It is very strange that this crash only happens when rendering a translucent material, and then that it will render if the other extensions are disabled.

Someone else reported that SubD extension may have a conflict with Twilight, if you can confirm that, it would help. I have SubD installed, and it does not conflict with Twilight.

Unfortunately we cannot reproduce the error/crash.

Can you please try to apply the Template>LampGlass>Matte (this is the material I would use for a lamp shade)
Change the model so that the thickness of the lampshade is very thin, similar to the thickness it would have in real life.
Tell us if that renders better and without a crash? (or just test render the attached file)

See attached the edited scene with updated materials and lampshade model with thin walls (this uses in the spherical sky the 2 tall rectangles HDRI that comes packaged with Twilight Render)

Changed the scale of the material texture on the lampshade

I think the add on that it was conflicting with is Fredo6_RoundCorner. I have uninstalled it and it worked.

Although I don't see Template>LampGlass>Matte

Very strange indeed. :? We have been installed alongside Roundcorner for ages without an issue.

Thanks for your reply, we will try to look into this. If you have any further issues, please let us know.
Perhaps that Template is one that is for pros only? You can download the .skp scene I shared with you and try to render that, and perhaps you can "steal" the material from that scene.

Reinstalling Twilight Render fixed the problem?
