HDR Post Processing

Photoshop has the ability to combine photos of different exposure values into an "HDR" image.
I understand that twilight handles post process tone mapping in such a way that adjusting the light/dark is similar to adjusting the EV on a camera. (through shutter speed and/or aperture size)
I experimented with a handful of renderings and ran them through photoshop's automated HDR process, but PS requires associating each image with an exposure value. I gave an educated guess and the result was decent...
Has anyone else tried this?
