Laptop for Rendering

Post by kwaynej » Mon Mar 03, 2014 3:25 pm

Hello, First I want to say I am new to rendering.
I started working for new company. Company uses twilight for rendering. Currently takes about 3 days to rendering a 125MB. I want to purchase few laptops that can reduce from 3 days to couple hour's. These are the following specs I have come up with. Are these good specs for twilight, I know it's 32bit software. I really appreciate suggestion's

HP ZBook 15 Mobile Workstation Quad Core, Windows 7 Pro 64bit
Intel Core i7-4800MQ Quad Core
NVIDIA Quadro K2100M with 2 GB dedicated GDDR5 video memory
16GB 1600MHz DDR3L 2DM
128GB SATA-3 Solid State Drive

software that will be installed on this Machine are
Twilight
SketchUP
AutoCAD 2014
Photoshop.

presuming you have an additional storage drive, specs look good.
be sure cooling is accounted for, laptops can get hot while rendering.

Thanks for the reference. From reading the reference, Twilight relies on the CPU, more core = more threads. for workstation with Xeon processor with 8 cores is even better.
