Render jpg's to black

Post by Fergos » Sun Feb 16, 2020 1:28 pm

Hi!

While testing Twilight for companys need I find it hard to render imported images properly - they just go black.

In Su 2018 it works ok, but in 2019 and newly installed 2020 (all Pro versions) any effort to provide a render fails:

Any help or tip is very much welcome

Please go to Extensions>Twilight V2>Options and find which version of Twilight you are rendering with.
Please be sure you are using the latest version only available from our download page on our website.

Please post the problematic .png file here for testing/analysis.

Hello there.

I know another way to use a jpg.
You can use on picture;
right click>use as material.

I’ve used it in while applying the Sakura image to the wall.

The image renders black because it's an "Indexed PNG". Unfortunately, the Kerkythea engine doesn't support indexed PNGs. But the solution is simple. Just open the image in Gimp or Photoshop, change it from "Indexed" to "RGB" and save it. Or open it and save it as a different image type like JPG.

The reason it renders in 2018 is because of a change within SketchUp. In SU2018 and earlier versions, SketchUp would convert the PNG from indexed to RGB automatically so the render engine never had to deal with it. Now, however, SketchUp does not make that conversion.

Thanks!

Even though I have to re-index and re-save my png's I'll at least get a proper rendering without jumping forth and back between versions of SU! ;-)

The re-indexing gives a chance to clean up a couple of folders, at least.
