Ok. I feel like an idiot. I misunderstood some things about threads, hyperthreading and my AMD FX8350 8-core processor. Just got done educating myself and reran the test.

8 threads, because it's an AMD[/b 8-core (D'oh!!!)

AMD FX8350 @4.00GHz
16GB
Win 7 Pro
SU7.1

nice machine, spooky!
It would appear we need a new speed test scene that really tests these higher-end machines more accurately. Machines have really progressed in the past 4 years. This test is over too quickly to get clear results for the higher end machines. I mean the faster machines seem to all end up about the 30s mark in the end. But if the test were more stressful for them, then the small differences among machines would become more pronounced, helping people really judge among the higher-end machines which ones are true speed powerhouses.

Thanks, Fletch! I bought this 8-core from Cyberpower PC for $US1100, and I am absolutely in love. One of the
best things about this machine is that it runs cool, so far never going beyond 30 Centigrade, even when maxed out.
The only problem I 'm having is, even though everything is 64 bit, I still can't access beyond 2.xx GB of RAM. Any ideas?

Also, on a separate note, does anyone have any idea why the window keeps extending out to something like 3600 pixels on this one forum thread?
It seems to mostly happen when I'm writing a post.

Anyway, I think you're right about the test being over too quickly for gathering real performance data among the highend machines. Maybe a more complex scene for rendering? I'm not really certain what all of the elements are which go into testing. Would be interesting to explore though. Maybe have a second test just for highend machines?

Strange, in our testing on several different 64bit setups Twilight appears to be able to access over 3Gb of RAM. It will of course for sure be limited to 4Gb, as SU/TWL are 32 bit programs.

Late to the party as always. Started using Twilight last month. Saw the test and figured I'd give it a whirl.

macbook pro - 2.5 GHz Intel i7, 8 GB ram render time - 25 seconds

imac - 3.5 GHz Intel i7, 16 GB ram render time 15 seconds

i7-4700mq @ 2.4Ghz
8gb ram
Windows 8.1
SU 2014

I find it strange that the AMD 8 core renderings were not faster at rendering.

Here is my result.
You can see statistics of my PC in the screenshot.
I think it doesn't matter for this but it also has a gtx880m GPU.

Could probably be faster closing a few backgroud programs etc; still not bad:

Just bought a new MacBook because my old Early-2011 13" i7 took a dive, thanks to misplace glass of water and an over excited kid.
(And actually, one month after the event only the WiFi broke, so can't really complain). But I digress...

The tested system is the Apple MacBook Pro Mid-2014 15-inch: 2.2GHz with Retina display

Specifications
2.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
Turbo Boost up to 3.4GHz
16GB 1600MHz memory
256GB PCIe-based flash storage1
Intel Iris Pro Graphics

OSX 10.9.4
SketchUp 14.1
