Pricing here: https://aws.amazon.com/ec2/pricing/on-demand/
+ GPU: https://aws.amazon.com/ec2/elastic-graphics/

My understanding is that the best systems for rendering are the "Compute Optimized" systems, specially c5.large to c5.18xlarge. The GPU addon is required to get SketchUp to load so I just use the cheapest option there.

c5.18xlarge with Windows is $6.372/hour with per second billing and I think one minute minimum (correction: see next post; billing not per second). The GPU adds $0.05/hour. Expensive but not bad for short bursts when you need something rendered quickly :). (Just remember to turn the system off when you're done and set up billing alerts in case you forget!)

Setting up an instance is definitely on the technical side. The Amazon Web Services interface is very feature filled and technical. I think a lot of users would be able to handle it with a tutorial, though.

I'd be happy to help with more testing on various c5 EC2 systems :). It's a lot of fun!

Correction: Windows EC2 instances don't have per second billing. Looks like hourly. That might be the end of my testing for now until they have per minute billing at least. Oh well, fun while it lasted :).

Edit: Looks like Google has some good options which I'll check out next.

Google Compute Engine. 96 vCPU (2 x 24 core). 48 threads for render.

Low: 16 seconds
Medium: 55 seconds
High: 3 min 8 seconds

It looks like what's happening here is that this render only takes advantage of the 48 threads for a relatively short period. For example, on the high render, the progress gets to 99% antialiasing after only a minute, and then spends the rest of the time waiting for all the threads to finish. So systems with better single thread performance are winning on this. A system like this should really win out on progressive render, though, where all the threads/cores are in use the whole time. I attached an example of a progressive render (09 interior) for the same amount of time as the "high" setting.

So ya we need a new benchmark render for high core systems :).

Progressive render, see previous post.

Agreed, for systems over 8 threads it is now a good idea to have a higher resolution/more challenging scene.
We will look into this.

I know this test scene is somewhat dated for the newer hardware that's available currently, but for comparison between cpu's it's all we have for right now.

I just upgraded from my old i7 860 (coming up 10 years old) to an i7 9700K. I have been doing tests on my own scenes and am experiencing Twilight rendering speeds of X4 increase. I'm very pleased with the reduced rendering wait times.

My results using the Bauhaus Lamp Scene

Hi, I'm new to Twilight Render, and thought I'd test my older system (laptop). I'm using SketchUp 2016. I'm curious why my "low" render didn't render the light properly, and if it has anything to do with my NVIDIA K2100m graphics card? I also notice the renders aren't as smooth as the other posts. I didn't change any settings. Thanks!

Hello cortjustice,
I don't recall ever seeing the light work like that in anyone's rendering.
Does it do this every time? Or was it a "one-off"?
