O.K. got a "bee in my bonnet" to try rendering some gem stones. Have messed about with this off and on for quite a while. Finally got some good results I think. Rendered with a studio hdri that had multiple lights. 200 passes on Easy 10. Very minor post pro with Affinity Photo. Just got Affinity and still exploring it so didn't get to carried away.
Now for some of the things I discovered while doing this render. Gems look their best when rendered with multiple light sources. But I had to experiment with a bunch of hdri's as many were giving me really bad reflections in the "glass tube".
Also used the Deep Material "Crown Glass" on the tube. I was getting really bad artifacts on the tube when using the common glass material settings. I suspect it had to do with just how thin the tube is.
Posting a couple of images. The only difference between the two is I rotated the hdri 160 degrees.

Re: Diamonds Are Forever
Great . I kinda like the first one better, the diamonds seem to have some more color in them.

Thanks everyone. It took a while to get a good result but was a fun learning experience.
