Exterior Practice

Post by tuna57 » Wed Jul 08, 2020 9:37 pm

Well here's another exterior model I bashed together for practice. The house sits about six feet higher than street level with lot sloping down on all sides. Used Skatter for the lawn. Put the background in post pro.

:^: Very nice image. Good work!

The 3 materials I like least are the roof, the fascia, and the facade. More attention on the textures/materials of those major surfaces and it will be very high quality indeed.

Oh, and the tree shadow! :gj:

Although, to add something constructive: Perhaps less foreground would work? and this design might be interesting to see in another angle.

pbacot , Fletch , as always appreciate the encouragement and critiques. Not sure about the comment on the facade of the house though.... modeled the house from an old 60's era plan. Tried to stay close to the original design. Do get the style may not be everybody's cup of tea.... Totally get not liking the roof.... was shooting for the "pea gravel" composition roofs common on lower pitch roofs in South Florida "back in the day". Haven't yet found a texture that really pulls off the look I'm after. Got to stand firm that I just don't do gutters and downspouts  . Not sure about the less foreground comment ? Get closer can't see all the house ? I suppose raise the eye height of the camera so more sky less front lawn in the view ? Might have to play with it some more..... :!

Facade in this case was referring to the stucco material texture, not the style.

Getting good texture materials is a major part of realistic rendering. It is an eternal search.

I often just crop out foreground after I make the image, if I don't like it. It just seems you are looking at a lot of grass and pavement when the focus is supposedly the house.

This kind of of roof can and has been done without gutters, The "gutter" is a low swale inside of the fascia. It would still have pipe downspouts but you could just let it drain straight down in a dry climate or use a chain.

Well had another go at this. Made a few minor changes.... adjusted the camera view a little, swapped the roof to a cement tile. Fletch was on to something about the "facade", somehow had lost the link to the bump map for the walls in the first render. Got that relinked . Tweaked on a few textures..... and here it is :! ........ Better ? I don't know it's good practice all the same.

I like the better framing of the view, better contrast, and better roof. :^:
