Cruising the Mississippi

I always wanted to model one of these stunning boats, but never had the time to do it. While paddle steamers were first used in Europe, they found their true home on the rivers of the United States, especially the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. They were the main way of transporting cargo and passengers along the rivers and made an invaluable contribution to the expansion of America to the West.
My favourite type is the stern-wheel paddle steamer. This particular model is loosely based on the "Marieville" but with some artistic license. This classic "western" river steamboat has the unique American design of a shallow-draft flat-bottom craft with wood-burning boilers and high pressure steam engines on the main cargo deck, luxurious and flamboyant passenger accommodations on the deck above and, up on the hurricane deck, the pilot house and crew's "Texas" cabin.
As always your comments are welcome, and if anyone is interested in doing something different with it, the model is available from my page on the 3d warehouse, although it is a large file.
