An outdoor plunge pool and cooling off after a hot day. I will be digging into the lighting, this is a first test.

Thanks folks, I am thinking of different lights and perhaps a bit more from the hdri, currently 50 percent.

More realistic modeling is the most critical need in this image, the benches and the architecture are woefully low poly, so therefore when rendered, they of course look unrealistic. The first step in high quality rendering is a high quality model.

There must be a good bench in the warehouse, but it may be faster to build it yourself, if you have something specific - I suggest looking at an image of the real world object you are trying to model and get all the details.

Same suggestion for the spa interior- find images of spaces you really like, and try to copy the details/aspects of them. A ceiling wouldn't look like this in a spa.

We created a wonderful series of 6 videos "6 essentials to rendering in Sketchup with Twilight Render", and this is the topic of video #1. 8-) If you have seen the series, it may be beneficial to see it again, I often watch tutorials multiple times and find that I catch new information upon re-watching.

The steps are: high quality modeling, dynamic camera placement, good materials... lighting is much further down the road. :hat: CLICK THE LINK IN MY SIGNATURE to start watching the series playlist. :^:
perhaps a bit more from the hdri
I wouldn't use an HDRI to light the interior of a space, unless there is no wall to the right or left behind the camera. The little light you are getting through the window would be better projected using an invisible emitter surface. HDRI are best used to light something which it can surround on all sides. In this scene, only the light through the window is coming from the HDRI, and this light is not magical.

1. The 'roof' is wooden beams so light comes through the roof.

2. Low poly? I made those benches myself and they are not low poly in any way shape or form.

Sorry mate but wrong on both of those.

Essentially it is an outdoor plunge pool.

 no offense intended, hope you will accept my apologies.

In the case of the lighting, then I may suggest turning on the sun, set power to 1 to get started, and change the color to a moon blue color... set sun angle in SU to get more interesting shadows.

Fletch, mate, no offence taken. You will get my sense of humour some day.

I am really playing with this, I saw a model and render somewhere on the 'net and thought I would try to reproduce it. I am aware I get varied results which can seem rather inconsistent. I take what you say very seriously indeed and am very grateful for the pointers you come up with. I will get there but only with people telling me where I slip up. Thanks you, Sir. :rspkt:  :hat:
