Cordless Drill

Post by rangerrick » Tue Feb 02, 2010 11:56 pm

An hdri for illumination, I must of rendered this two dozen times trying different globals/rotation.
The model credits for the Makita drill is by nono downloaded from the 3d warehouse. I own one
just like it.

amazing work rangerrick!! i thought it was a photo at first! on second glance though, the only thing that makes it non-photo for me is the green plastic, i think maybe a very fine bumpmap would make it uber real! or you could just photoshop in a few imperfections. i got a drill just like it too! great scene, love it :D

Thanks Olishea, I implemented your suggestion to add a fine bump w/scratches to the green plastic. Good call. It’s hardly noticeable, I didn’t want to over due it but I hope it adds value to the image. :) I reworked the trigger a bit and the tone mapping is slightly cooler.

That's awesome, I keep going back to this topic to look at it! :rspkt:
That new trigger really made it a lot better, great job! The only thing I'm noticing is how the cross in the heads of the screws looks kinda 'boxy', aren't those usually a little tapered (for lack of a better word)?

All in all an awesome render of what is probably an awesome tool (I have the screwdriver from the same productline and it kicks ass!).
Some say there are no stupid questions. I'm in the habit of proving those people wrong.
