Experiments with evening lighting

Post by Bob James » Mon Apr 12, 2010 9:51 pm

Here are two tries at using low tinted sunlight and a dreary sky at about 5pm.

Nice images Bob. I get the feeling of dusk in terms of lighting. I would like to see a night scene with the vast majority of the light coming from the structure itself.

very very nice!! first one is great. i think the lights in the second one are too bright/close to neighbouring surfaces.

Why not try some up-lights to the structure? could be quite dramatic.

I love seeing these rockets!!

Thank you for your input guys!
Thank you for your comment, Fletch; that really means a lot to me.

Oli: The tower and its lights are the same in both renders; only the vehicle is different. :halo:
I'm trying for realism for the actual site: however, there are pad lights on poles about 100 yards away; I could add those (but they wouldn't add "drama" 8-) )

Shadow Setting: 5 PM on April 19

Twilight
Sunlight, Sunlight Casts Shadows, Soft (Blurry) Shadows: On
Sunlight Color: rgb(244, 198, 119)
Sunlight: 98 (blurry shadows)
Maximum Sun Intensity: 1

Width/Height: 1920/1080
Preset: 07. High+
Spherical Sky
Sky Brightness: 1.000
Background Image: Twilight\Materials\HDRI_Sky_Sample\FreeHDR_1730_Sunset01_LDR.jpg
Sky Rotation: +94 deg (after several tries with the sky alone ;) it would be neat if you could see the sky image and rotate it without having to render it each time to find the right angle)

Render Time: ~2hr each

This is part of a much larger model of the whole launch site: that's next (but I imagine the render time will be much longer).

Scott: Good idea; I'll try that after I do the whole thing at twilight

You've just GOT to love Twilight!!!

Thats what I mean, the new vehicle is closer to the lighting in the second render causing the hotspots. but no biggy!
You've just GOT to love Twilight!!!
