Bedroom

Post by Chris » Mon Jul 06, 2009 3:56 am

My first image post!

Inspired by one of the cool images from http://www.home-designing.com. The blanket and pillows were downloaded; the curtains and chairs were modeled in Wings. The rest was done in SketchUp. The background is from heiwa4126 on flickr.com who produces a lot of fantastic spherical backgrounds.

I think the curtains turned out great, and I like the effect of the recessed lights around the edge.

I'm rerendering it now with the background intensity lower and a higher exposure to brighten up the image without such an apocalyptic sky.

Nice subject. You did a great job of the lighting & modeling in recreating the original scene. I would like to see a little more color in your image to livin it up as in the original image where the sky is casting a blueish tint to ojects which is very complimentary of the wonderful orange sky.

I agree the blue cast of the original image really did add a lot.
This is basically the same image as before but a better sky / light balance, and rendered longer.

I'll mess with the wall color a bit, or maybe go with a strong color on the curtains and see what that makes. :)

bedspread appears to intersect mattress.
pillows and bedspread are distractingly messy for such a clean scene... would add more mess (shoes/clothes on floor) or make the bed. :D

lighting still seems flat... could just be the tonemapping?

I agree the tone is a lot better, though I don't love the colors.

I rerendered with red curtains, turned up the recessed lighting bit and rotated the blanket so you get more interesting features (before it wasn't intersecting the bed, but it did look like it). I did some tonemapping in gimp to as well. I like the "cooler" balance to this one.

Was 'the cooler balance' achieved in Gimp? I like the render very much. The blanket looks a little bit artificial.

Yeah, I love Gimp. ;)

The blanket isn't great, I agree. It's too thick, and doesn't flow right. But my organic modeling skills aren't that great. I think the curtain turned out well, but folds on a blanket are a lot harder.
