Cathedral of Reims (France)

Post by PhM34 » Thu Jan 19, 2012 8:05 am

Hi,

I open this new post, which follows "Gold & Diamond." Finally, to expose the crown, I will make the interior of the Cathedral of Reims (France). It was here that King Louis XV was crowned with the crown.

Many photos here: http://cathedrale.maisons-champagne.com ... ie&part=08

I started work, a column templates, which are among 24 in the cathedral is finished (height : 11.1m).

I will now continue in the same column height to reach 37.85 m from the axis of the inner central vault.

The document, full resolution, can be seen here: http://www.vuedehaut.fr/3D/Reims/colonnePrincipale.jpg

Hi,

Updated ...

Start the game placed on top of the previous column with the creation of a complex half-vault easily achieved with the plugin Curviloft.

The most visible high peaks, at this point, to 26.5 m above the ground.

Good weekend and to be continued ...

Hi,

Here, by comparison, the real views of the cathedral and the current "state of the art" for the part of the building under construction.

With lots of pictures (371) and plans and drawings (91) some of the time (which XIII centuries), I have everything I need to move forward.

But what you see now already weighs 18.5Mo (only this part unfinished, will be multiplied 10 times) and I think at one point, SketchUp and / or Twilight will not stop the progression of this project?

Do you have any information on the carrying capacity of Earth and / or Twilight for very large projects?

To be continued ...

Good God man! That is stupendous!

Could you share some pointers on the column capital decorations? I could use it for my little project

Hi mdaia313,

Your project does not have much need advice?

Your model is very good and sufficient detail. For the choice and selection of textures, I use specialized research Flickr that provides access to many photos in large format. In your case, try this: http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=San+Car ... ontane&z=e

I hope that helps you with this method of looking for good photos ...

Thanks PhM.

Flickr has been an invaluable resource. I was just curious how you got the leaves on the column to look as though they are actually modeled. Are they simply textures? If so, I might have to dig deeper in set some up for my little project. Might have to dig in the archives for threads on texturing.

Keep up the good work.

Hi,
Well, both, 3D models and textures adapted, for this reason that my models are heavy!
For parties and complex curves, I use the plugins Curviloft and RoundCorner.
