Re: A DOUBLE W.I.P
How long does rendering take to achieve this quality ?
Re: A DOUBLE W.I.P
Lovely, Gareth! Very nice!
Are you going to sell these after you get the whole package made?
If you do, be sure to make about 3 different nice "parking lot trees" - small enough to fit the parking islands, with enough leaves to render nicely yet few enough leaves to allow view through the trees... if you know what I mean.

Thanks mate.
Actually, the render quality could be much better because I generally only render these scenes for 10-12 passes on Easy 08. They would look much nicer if I let them run for longer, But what it does tell me is that Twilight can handle these fairly heavy scenes quite easily and still produce a good result quite quickly.
As a guide, the Poplar Tree (the leafless one) on the previous page was less than 30 minutes whereas the Ginkgo was around 2 hours because the file size was much larger (bigger tree with lots of leaves)
Remember the scene also has Skatter grasses....if I were to hide that layer the render would rip through very quickly. So, if the trees were placed in a normal Architectural scene, they wouldn't weigh down the render too much. In other words, a building with a few trees used in the scene using Skatter or Twilight's Proxy tool should deliver render times as you would be normally be accustomed to.
[EDIT] This may interest you. I have just carried out a quick test to time the renders by reducing the contents of the scene until I was left with just the trees :
1. Full scene (23 Trees + Skatter grasses + Terrain ) - 12 minutes/pass
2. 23 Trees + Terrain but no Skatter grasses - 3 minutes 38 seconds/pass
3. 23 Trees, no Terrain and no Skattter grasses - 2 minutes 20 seconds/pass
AND....this is where it gets really interesting :
4. Terrain with Skatter grasses and NO Trees - 4 minutes 40 seconds/pass

Yes Fletch....running a little behind schedule, but getting there..!Fletch wrote:Lovely, Gareth! Very nice!

Indeed, there will be quite a few 'parking lot' trees and I will have 'stripped' versions of most of them so that secondary twigs are removed and they will in fact have fewer leaves. (this also reduces the file size).....striking the right balance will be the trick.

You are welcome mate.
Actually tried Skattering leaves, but wasn't happy with the result, so I turned that Skatter layer off. Will give it another shot when I work out what I did wrong (and when I get some spare time).....!!
