So Im working on the train rn, and I keep getting this material artifact with the ridges on the side of the train. At the ends of the cars (1) they have the same specularity as the rest of the side, which is good, but in the middle parts (2) they have a much higher specularity making them almost white from the light reflection. They are all the same material (Paint: Flat Enamel, IOR: 1.080, Shininess: 40.000) and are the part of the same mesh, the soften/smoothen value for the edges is the same for the whole mesh. I've tried to rid of that effect, the only way seems to be setting the material to a metal with a low shininess value (around 5 - 10), but that makes it look rather unrealistic (for what is supposed to me a paint cover that is). The render method used is Easy 09 (Interior Progressive)

When something is overly reflective, the first thing is to check that you have front faces showing. When a material is applied to the wrong side, it will often render very reflective.

Yep! My faces were a mess, didn't even realise that. But got that all sorted out, and now it renders just fine.

I could do that but my screen res is kinda low (Im away from home for a while so using a laptop), not sure how much you would be able to see there /: . Maybe some high-res clay renders would do better for that?

If you wish to export a SketchUp view, set your view style, and then choose "File>Export>2D Graphic>choose JPG> click Options button and set resolution of image"
In Twilight Render dialog you may also choose to export SU view as well: Render>Save SU View which will be saved with the resolution specified in the Render Dialog for Twilight Render. ;)

No problem, hope it helps ;)

Now, this is probably my last post on this topic for a while, as I'll have to put the project on hold until I'm home for long enough to render all the frames for the animation on my desktop (I imagine that being at the end of decmber or so). So until then I'll just post a few quick renders of what I had in mind for the animation to be, as you see there wasn't much effort put into the post-pro on these :D .

That's it for now tho, gonna try figuring out a good way to add motion blur to this in the meantime.
