Bear in the room. added dof render.

Post by Mike1158 » Wed Dec 20, 2017 2:44 pm

A time of sometimes forced mood. I have been amazed over the years how communication can be strained by time of year, especially when the weather means spending more time in close company. Different characters with their focus in different directions and the cat as usual, looking to the soft touch for whatever it wants/needs. Not sure if it works.

Nice work! A bit of Uncanny Valley effect, but that's to be expected with SU's limitations on things like rigging and posing of organics. I love the texturing. It must have been a pain getting everything mapped right.

The only improvement I could see making would be to raise the interior light levels a bit, (kind of dim) and warm them up just a bit. It seems a little too blue grey, kind of like a cold winter morning here in the high desert, (we do have them; Day before yesterday was -1 C at 0700) when the accursed flourescent tubes in the kitchen take 10 minutes to warm up.

Derpu! I just looked at the image again. They are flourescent tubes. Never mind! Carry on!

That said, WOW that is nice work. Great job with the reflection on the windows and the mirrors, both; and a great choice for the image outside the window. I can almost feel the cold radiating off the glass. ( I know, it works the other way around in reality  )
Also, it's nice seeing an illustration, a scene which actually tells a story. Much respect, Mike! :hat:

Thanks very much, the colour/tone I missed but my monitor is very bright so I have to keep this in mind.

Thanks for the feedback Catherine, I have been thinking on method since I read it. I used a texture to change the light unit effect. First was too dark but this one seems more suitable.

Making last changes, going goggle eyed with settings and if I continue I will just make it worse.

I'd say you've nailed it to the wall, Mike! That is beautifully done, and I think you've got the lighting perfect. The texture you used to change the lighting-that was applied to the light tubes?

I hope you've had a Merry Christmas, and best wishes for a happy and safe New Year!

Thanks Cathryn, yes that texture was applied to the lights. A quiet Christmas alone this year which makes a change to driving around to family but with the sudden poorer weather I did not want to stress Bessy (My car) too much. Bess hit 46 years old this year so earned a quiet few weeks. Bess has no heater either but will have a dehumidifier soon as it is no fun scraping ice from the interior of the car before driving. Hope you and family had a good Christmas too. Stay well dood.

I like the color on the last one, Mike! Is that you in the chair with the gift?
I like that you tried to tell a little story... put a little mystery into it.
I think a bit of DOF could help this one.
The 3rd person in the room is a distraction/confusing for my eye.

love that car!

Thanks Fletch, the third person in the room was a signifier that in some households there are several generations living in the same house. This goes back to the twenties to forties here in the UK and had a hiatus but this is now common in the UK. Each generation has different views on the same topic hence each character looking in different directions. The mirrors suggest that we only have to change by a few degrees of thought to 'see' each other again.

Until I was about ten we (My mum, dad, me and two sisters) had one room about 16' X 10 feet in size. I shall try dof but will have to play a bit to see how to use it. Thanks for the tips Fletch. Not me in the chair btw, much too young, I was a child in the late fifties and sixties. I have had Bess since 1988, rather stuck on how it feels to drive such alight car with a mighty 55 bhp so overtaking anything faster than a milk float or horse and cart takes a bit of planning. Bess is my family now too.
