Pool Scene

Post by albertor » Sun Jan 07, 2018 8:35 pm

Hello my friends!

A pool scene I'm working on... Do you have a good water map? The one I'm using is the one of the SketchUp ones...

And of course, the tile roof has to be improved...

Easy 8 option used... about 360 passes done.

What can be done to enhance this?

Thanks!

Model is looking pretty great so far! (aside from the roof tiles, as you mentioned)
After you fix the water problem there will need to be a little post-pro exposure adjustment to give a bit more punch.
Twilight Render can render pool water nicely, automatically for you, be sure you have the latest version of Twilight Render installed on your machine (SketchUp>Extensions>TwilightV2 >Options>Options>Enable Auto Templates). But it can not with any render setting make sun/pool caustics (the sparkly lines on the bottom of the pool) so you can load a sun pool caustics image into a projector light or series of lights that you set up under the surface of the pool water to fake those caustics if that's what you need.

Mainly, it looks like "cast shadows" is set for your pool water material here. Also, it looks like there's a color set for the water - you need to the color to be perfectly white, transparency perfectly clear, and to color the pool bottom turquoise (see pool example scenes attached in the threads linked below). Set your water to use glass template>water> set color of water to pure white and set alpha transparency/opacity of water to be 0 -zero-

So, here's what the pool water renders like...

Here you may download pool day scene with the automatic water template slightly adjusted to add a slight ripple bump to the water.

Good evening Fletch,

What is a "sun pool caustics image" ?

When the sun is shining just right in a pool photo, the caustics (little white squiggly reflection lines that jiggle on the bottom of the pool) can be seen. See example image here of a photo of a "in real life" pool showing "sun/pool caustics":

These caustics are not always obvious to the eye even if the pool is in bright sunlight, here are some example photos I've collected:

Twilight Render does not have a rendering method that can render sun/pool caustics as such. So you will need to use a projector light shining under the water onto the bottom of the pool in order to simulate the caustics lines. Here's an example of some caustics texture images one may choose to try loading into a projector light under the water to simulate caustics.
