Tips for night scene

Post by albertor » Wed Jan 17, 2018 3:39 am

Hello my friends!

I've playing around with a night scene, what might be basic tips for this kind of scene (specially sun and sky intensity...)

My issue is that with my laptop, the render turns very slow, even in Low preset.

The first image was done with the Low Preset, the second with Light Transport...

But here we go...

Regards

Personally I think the sky looks good, maybe a bit bright for a night scene, but late evening I think it's perfect! Needless to say, the second render turned out ways better, the only thing I'd change is the intensity of the lights, they look a bit dim in the second one. And oh, don't forget to add the lights themselves, not just the light sources :D

Hello Albertor! :)

Great post! Nice images.
Where there is a light in the foreground it's better. You do want to depend on the Exposure Control in Twilight Post Process pull-down in the Render Dialog in order to adjust the resulting image. Or save in HDR or PNG format and adjust the image in a photo editor to get the right balance of light.

Tone Mapping is the most critical step missed by most people starting out with rendering.
Advanced Cameras today have built in engines to do this for your images, but even so, most professionals would never let their photos be shown in public without retouching them with post-processing and enhancement of some kind. The same goes for renderings!

Here is a very quick attempt with each of your images:

Blue pool bottom would look much better - the green looks like algae is growing. :(
