A return to automotive themes.

Post by Mike1158 » Sun Feb 04, 2018 3:57 pm

If I bore you with these car attempts, please let me know, rather than bore everyone to tears. I am working at the aerodynamic range to the bodywork which is something I have struggled to get to, sketchup is not really intended for this so I cannot complain too much.

The self imposed brief is for a three cylinder turbo engine with the potential for adding electric motor assistance. Two passengers and a fixed roof and potentially roof mounted intakes for carbs/injection system. I am taking a lot of care over fit and thermal efficiency with the radiator outlet AND the exhaust exiting the bodywork below the rear wing a la F1 blown diffuser with bodywork waisting to maximise aero and thermal wake separation. Hark at me talking like a pukka car designer, I must have read too many dictionaries.......

Moving on and the renders are showing me where there are problems with the surfaces. I find relying on sketchup views to be insufficient. I have added the white oblong as a contrast size wise, my design is just over 11 feet long and the Elise is just over twelve foot six inches long.

Thanks Fletch, working at it. I am trying to get data to recreate a Fiat Twinair engine from, well Fiat actually. Not that much in the way of dimensions for such a modern motor. I am definitely going for a turbocharged version with electric motor assistance.
