Test Render
Test Render
Saw that video on Lightup, can I say that? Wondered if I could do the same. It seemed really quick, real time. This in Twilight took 28 secs., 500x500, Low, Spherical sky, blue tile, .2, one point, no sun.

Hi rbissett Welcome!
a link to the video you are talking about may help some of us...
Are you talking about rendering animated textures? I would venture to say this will not be difficult to accomplish in the future in Twilight... but will give no time frame.
Render with ambient occlusion render setting if you want to compare with the software you mentioned. (Express>Advanced>02 Ambient Occlusion)

Re: Test Render
lightup's not quite the same. a simple scene will render quickly yes, and you can walk through it. But a complex scene takes a very long time to render.

Re: Test Render
Aha! Ok, I 'get' it now.
The "direct" lighting he's calculating there, I believe, (could be wrong) but is called "raytracing".
We didn't even include that method in distribution with Twilight as it's many years old, and does not take into account the bounce of light, so therefore light attenuation is messy, images are black, you have to fake things, and more... however, if that sort of thing interests you, here you go - unzip the attached package and put them into the custom render settings folder. (I made a couple extras just for you to test... they will render quite quickly)
To create an ambient occlusion, turn off sun and set sky color to medium gray (NOT "Background" color be sure to set the "Sky Color" ) render that... oh, and turn off your light you put in... that will get you similar results to the video shown.
Now, to turn the light back on that you put in, and render using the Easy #02 setting... should be getting the direct light plus sky.
Please watch the video tutorials for Twilight, and study the manual if you want to know almost anything for 'getting started'.
Twilight Render does not 'bake textures' into the model and allow you to fly thru that view as shown in the video. This may be supported in a future version.
As you can see, there are several settings in the "easy" settings folder. the ones with a "+" have much higher quality for shadows and for specular and AA settings... hence the longer render time. These times will jump up or down depending on the types of materials used in the scene.
