Earth & Moon...

Post by Frederik » Sun Mar 29, 2009 10:08 am

Hi All,

Nothing fancy, just a test to see a Twilight render on a model, where I've used the UVTools v0.1 plug-in...

You can get some decent planet maps at JHT's Planetary Pixel Emporium all available in color/diffuse-, bump- and specular- maps... ;)

This is what I did:
1.) Import/create a sphere...
2.) Resize the sphere to 300cm in diameter...
3.) I then applied Subdivide and Smooth with 2 iterations (it maps reasonably well with just 1, but 2 is better)...
4.) Import the Earth-map color/diffuse image and exploded it...
5.) Using the material editor tool in SU, you need to make sure the height of the image match the diameter of the sphere...
6.) Apply the image, from the Material browser to the sphere...
7.) Right-click the sphere and select "UV Tools" > "Spherical" from the context menu...
I did the same for the Moon, but made the moon 200 cm in diameter...
Voilá... ;)

If anyone would be interested in the model, which is now prepared to be rendered using Twilight, please let me know... ;)
Cheers

A small update, since the surface of the moon is reflecting the light and thereby seem to be emitting light, I applied an emitter to the moon texture...
Here's the result...

Would that be possible in TW...?? :?

I'd be happy to provide the 'skippy' if anyone is interested in giving it a go... ;)

sure, if you have a mat. from KT, you can apply it with Twilight. ;)
would be a nice one to provide in the Twilight mats pack... wouldn't it?
