Slideshow of my favorite building - the Milwaukee Art Museum designed by Santiago Calatrava realized in partnership with Kahler Slater Architects - the architects of record for the building.

I suppose if you have to pick a favorite, that is a good choice. Wonderful design. Calatrava's designs always have that anthropomorphic skeletal feel.Fletch wrote:Slideshow of my favorite building - the Milwaukee Art Museum designed by Santiago Calatrava realized in partnership with Kahler Slater Architects - the architects of record for the building.
Here is a fun clip where Peter Eisenmen discusses his design for the Aronoff Center for Design. It is fallowed by a lively discussion on architecture in general.

Re: Art, Architecture, and Design Videos
Thank you for the great link! I enjoyed the interview very much. I love his enthusiasm and excitement.
He says things that really reinforce the Miwaukee Art Museum's goals:
"This is a space for people to be in" "to hang out here" "to experience with their body"
"This building forces you to stop and look at it. You can't engage it casually."
"Because you divide it up into little pieces it seems larger"
"I want people to touch the space"
"you can not look at this building casually." "this building shakes people and says 'you've got to look at this, you've got to feel it.' "
It's funny to hear him say that the word "form" is "bad", but that the word "space" is "good", as if you can't have both. Maybe at the time he felt he could not have both. He "wanted to avoid an axis and symmetry". While of course the Milwaukee Art Museum is all about form, axis, and symmetry. It is extremely formal. And a stunning "form" but at the same time, you can see the spaces that are created inside the MAM are accomplishing exactly the goal Eisenman had for his building in that interview. It is of course from 96 and I would like to hear his ideas today whether or not he feels so strongly about 'form' being 'bad' etc. *edit* date of film clip has been corrected

I wouldn't normally pick a favorite, but I suppose I may be a little bit biased in this case.sshiffermiller wrote:I suppose if you have to pick a favorite, that is a good choice. Wonderful design.

Very cool (3D CAD Yikes!). I would also love to hear more about what he thinks today. If you know of any other videos where the Architect gives explicit information on design intentions like this, I would love to see them. I find it really interesting.Fletch wrote: It is of course from 88 and I would like to hear his ideas today whether or not he feels so strongly about 'form' being 'bad' etc.
