What do I need

Post by Federico » Tue Apr 11, 2017 2:27 pm

Hi guys,
I'm doing mostly exterior renderings of houses, I generally have short times to do them like 1-2 days but my issue is the rendering time, my files are generally for the model about 20Mb then creating the land and vegetation with Skatter I get a total of about 150-200Mb

To render something like that, the last one I did was on Ext8 2000x1500 and I got ray track 1110/10000 in 63h50m40s

What kind of computer would I need to improve the rendering time? Double processor?
Right now I have an Intel Xeon E5-1650 v2 @3.50Ghz

It's the skatter that is killing the render times.

After about 1000 passes it should be clear as day, however - are you thinking you have to get to 10000 passes? That's just a random number, you don't have to go to that many passes. After 60-100 it should be quite good... if there's a lot of direct sun light.

Avoid HDR sky with Easy 08 render setting.

Thanks for the reply, no I'm not looking on the 10000 passes, around 100-150 is good. Generally I do different views all around the house so some are in the shade. I know skatter is the killers but I was trying to figure out what kind of configuration of computer I need to speed up the process...maybe I can ask in the skatter forum ;-)

One important tip when using Skatter: if you are using the library components that are distributed with Skatter (i.e. the grass), the Twilight Render Materials that are embedded with those components are a translucency based material. It will look much nicer close up, but it renders very slowly. You can improve things by selecting that material and changing it's template to Flat or maybe one of the Plastic templates.

Thanks, I started a rendering of the same scene but without skatter and to get a the same point of the other one instead of 61h become 19h

I will try what you said since I was mainly using items from their library
