Curtain material

Post by massimo » Thu Dec 02, 2010 9:21 pm

Made this in Kerkythea quite quickly and not tested in a render. So, please, if you have a nice scene try it and tell me if it's good. :)
Posted also here on KT's forum.
P.S. Don't know if It's good to use KT's material preview here.

Massimo, if it's the one I'm thinking of, it looks like this when rendered, and is really good.
Twilight v.2 will allow you to achieve this curtain within SketchUp/Twilight.

Using the KT preview scene is fine.

Sorry, have not looked closely at your material yet.
Shown below is the Kerkythea render setting that which I have found to be a perfect setting for curtains with SketchUp - because they are usually single face.
It is actually by the inimitable Alvydas. ;)

Ah, OK. The material I've made is a bit more articulated (have also a bit of spec. for example), but Alvydas's one seems pretty good. :)

Here is your material, same model.

This material you have made seems to take a lot longer to render than the other one - just to warn you. Likely it's because of the added specular then.

I will try to create a material library for use with Twilight that has several colors of the Alvydas curtain. Not sure when it will get done. Feel free to make and post your own. ;)

Yes it's a layered mat whith fresnel ramp procedurals and it have a bit of falloff too.

Ok here I've build the material with the settings you posted (diffuse colour set to 80% and transucent&refraction 40% each).

And here is a very quick comparation on a model that Frederik post here somewhere. Changed some material and sun&sky settings.
Both renders were made with the same materials, with the exception of the curtains, and with the same sun&sky settings you can see in the picture below.
>curtain_Fletch-Alvydas easy 09 - 7 passes in 15 min
>curtain_massimo easy 09 - 7 passes in 22 min.
In mine also the outside seems brighter... :)

Great work massimo!
I have difficult to avoid the grey that appears in my curtains render.
I saw your work and seem's that what i'm looking for.
I made the download of your material, but i can´t open it in twilight's material dialog box.
There is any tip that i'm not doing?...
