Can't get the right scale

Post by Bob James » Wed Feb 17, 2010 8:32 pm

I obtained the diffuse, specular and bump maps from Arroway. Under "Info" it indicated that the Real size was 49.2 ft x 14.8 ft.
Using the Material Editor I tried to apply this texture to my wall, but the scale is all wrong. I made a 49.2 ft x 14.8 ft. wall and the scale was still not right.

Newbie question: How do I match the scale of the maps to the scale of my model? :|

in the SU material dialog, click the chain link that links the width to height ratio.
wait a second.
sometimes it takes a while for the link to break... be patient.
then type in the correct width and height for the texture.

Even after setting the correct dimensions in the SketchUp Material editor, it's possible that it's still not matching if your wall is inside a scaled group/component.

This is another way to adjust a texture to a wall:

Works like a charm. Thanks, Fletch

Here's part of a WIP where I've incorporated "Concrete_by_dentex", scaled it and then took the diffuse map into PS and lightened it to more nearly match reality.

second one definitely looks better.
is it a day shot? (why are the lights on?)
If you post-pro some grass on the hill, and get a better asphalt... you'd have a pretty convincing render there. ;)

It's meant to be twilight (no pun intended). I used a sunset sky map (note the reddish sky to the left (west)) and set the time of day to late afternoon.

I haven't been successful yet at finding an asphalt material that renders without looking like blocks of asphalt. I actually used an "asphalt" material, but it doesn't any bump or specular maps.

I'm not nearly good enough to know how to put grass on the hill with PS: but I have hopes :D
