sunset animation

Post by beckdan » Thu Feb 18, 2010 11:51 am

can anyone advise me how to create an animation where the hours of the day go from sunrise to sunset. in other words, you have a model of a house, and using the time feature of su see the model throughout the day. i guess the way to do it is to have to scences, each with times set in su, but what sky settings would i need to enter into twilight render settings?
Thanks

Well, I haven't done that before, but you'll probably want to use the Physical Sky, as it changes according to the time of day.

(this animation was entirely rendered in 1m40s with Sun Slider set to default 50, so apologies ahead of time for low quality, it's intended as a quick tutorial example. You will need to use the "animation" render settings... or at least use Medium+ for your final rendering.) This test scene is attached below!

Image
set up tab 1 for morning
set up tab 2 for afternoon
set up tab 3 for evening

(make sure your tabs are 'remembering' the sun/shadow setting... they do so by default)

in Light Dialog set sun slider to "5" (this speeds up render times dramatically over default) do not change anything else... everything is set by default.

render your first test animation with settings like this:

this one change cameras a bit, and used Animation Medium+ setting. Elapsed render time: 1m32s :^:
