......you are ready to start rendering a new project, and you recall a texture or material you have used before......but can't remember how you did it....??
......*IT PAYS TO TAKE NOTES*.......!!!
this might sound kind of cruel, but I hope I'm not the only one who has been in this situation....!!!

been there, done that.
In the U.S. they say, "Well, there's a hundred ways to skin a cat."
Maybe if we had a script that collected all the materials in a scene onto a sampler grid... a plane with several squares, and each square would contain a sample of each mat. used in the .skp model... then you could save that grid as a sort of project material archive. don't know if it would help in this particular situation or not...

Re: Don't You Just Hate It When...........
I guess this can be the Twilight D'oh thread.
I have been trying for the past 30 min. to get a bank of flight information screens to be fake emitters.
I tried everything short of posting a question here. I started to type my question when it dawned on me
that I might not have checked the "face orientation".
Of course the flight info board was "water tight" so I did not get a light leak when I was lighting up the interior of the board...
Another lesson learned.

And that's why the "Monochrome" button in SketchUp is one of my favorite...

it is comforting to know it happens to you guys too....!!
....I find the busier I get, the less likely I am to take notes, or if I take notes I don't file them with my other notes, or scribble them down quickly on spare pieces of paper......or worse still, I write them down so quickly I can't understand what I've written.....!!!!
