How to Modify Twilight Render Setting

Post by Fletch » Mon Sep 20, 2010 9:28 am

Perhaps you have tried rendering a file with High+ render setting, but the file will not render (this could be because you are running out of RAM to hold the photon map)
If you have tried reducing the file size by changing any large textures or image files to be lower resolution, and it still will not render...
Then perhaps this tip will help...

Using your computer's file browser to find the Twilight\RenderSettings folder:

Code: Select all

C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Google SketchUp 7\Plugins\Twilight\RenderSettings\Express\1) Easy
The standard SketchUp Plugins root directories are:
Windows SU8: C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 8\Plugins...
Windows SU13: C:\Program Files\SketchUp\SketchUp 2013\Plugins...
Windows SU14: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp 2014\SketchUp\Plugins...
Windows SU15: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp 2015\SketchUp\Plugins...
Windows SU216: There are 2: C:\ProgramData\SketchUp\SketchUp 2016\SketchUp\Plugins...
~and~
C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp 2016\SketchUp\Plugins **
Windows SU2017: There are 2: C:\ProgramData\SketchUp\SketchUp 2017\SketchUp\Plugins
~and~
C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp 2017\SketchUp\Plugins **
Windows SU2018: There are 2: C:\ProgramData\SketchUp\SketchUp 2018\SketchUp\Plugins
~and~
C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp 2018\SketchUp\Plugins **
(**Twilight Render uses the first one which installs for everyone who uses the computer. The second installs only for the current user.)

Mac SU8: Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Google SketchUp 8/SketchUp/Plugins
Mac SU13: ~/Library/Application Support/SketchUp 2013/SketchUp/Plugins
Mac SU14: ~/Library/Application Support/SketchUp 2014/SketchUp/Plugins
Mac SU15: ~/Library/Application Support/SketchUp 2015/SketchUp/Plugins
Mac SU16: ~/Library/Application Support/SketchUp 2016/SketchUp/Plugins
Mac SU17: ~/Library/Application Support/SketchUp 2017/SketchUp/Plugins

Where '~/Library/..." is the same as "/Users/<your_mac_user_name>/Library/..."

copy the setting file you wish to change:
"1) Easy\07. High+.xml"
paste the file here:

Code: Select all

...Plugins\Twilight\RenderSettings\Express\3) Custom
Using Windows Notepad,
Open the new setting, and find where it says:

Code: Select all

<Parameter Name="Samples per Light" Type="Integer" Value="100000"/>
change it to say

Code: Select all

<Parameter Name="Samples per Light" Type="Integer" Value="10000"/>
test render, if the image still won't render, try finding and changing this value:

Code: Select all

<Parameter Name="Final Gathering Rays" Type="Integer" Value="900"/>
to be

Code: Select all

<Parameter Name="Final Gathering Rays" Type="Integer" Value="450"/>
and try changing this value:

Code: Select all

<Parameter Name="Caustic Count" Type="Integer" Value="512"/>
to be

Code: Select all

<Parameter Name="Caustic Count" Type="Integer" Value="256"/>
and try changing this value:

Code: Select all

<Parameter Name="Max Photon Tracing Depth" Type="Integer" Value="7"/>
to this:

Code: Select all

<Parameter Name="Max Photon Tracing Depth" Type="Integer" Value="6"/>
Save the file, make sure it ends in .xml
Now you can close your render dialog in SketchUp, re-open and look for your custom setting in the Custom setting folder.
