I used Metropolis light transport (BPT) preset. goto presets-->tech--->3)progressive--->04

I remember when I was start using KT ,became so excited , and start a topic to compare Max and KT renders , and a KT team member admired me too, not to do such compares....
in my sight it is a bit hard to do such comarisations... an artistic view could change the result easily... solo (http://www.solosplace.com/) is one of those artists, even when he is working with podium, the result is amazing!!
I think a good render is result of experience (good modeling , texturing, knowing your render engine abilities/limitations ,lighting ...) +a good render engine+an artistic eye and +a good client!!!
you inspired me, and here is my try over a 3dwh tweaked model, HDRI lighting 12 min on my crappy machine

If you use nk materials and interior+ preset (same as Kerkythea's Metropolis light transport (BPT) preset), then it's really hard to find difference to maxwell in same lighting.

And you'll be even more please if you use a real camera aperture, even if it's a small aperture like f/8, and select an object to focus on.

and you'll be even more pleased if you increase the number of segments in your curved BEFORE making the model :D
