Two pieces to share

Post by SpookyChick » Sat Apr 06, 2019 7:50 pm

First, please let me get this out of the way. I'm not exactly happy with it, but it's the best it's going to get without doing an entirely new scene, and personal work gets second priority. Still I did promise it soon, so here is :
The Wrong Artifact 2 Post Pro 1st Iteration small enough to upload.jpg
The Wrong Artifact 2 Post Pro 1st Iteration small enough to upload.jpg (943.33 KiB) Viewed 9745 times
The second piece here, is one I am very proud of: Damn Greys! Get off my planet!
2600 passes, Easy 8,

If you want to see the full size, it's up at my website. I had a lot of fun doing this one, and starting with a good image made the post pro go SO easily. I wish I could have uploaded the full size here, but bandwidth costs money for the board...

Ja ne!

I like where you are going with the first render, it's great The second is something else, brilliant. :rspkt: :hat:

I like them both, but the second image is perhaps the best I've seen from you, yet, Spooky. ;) :^:

Thank you al! :hat:

Fletch, that means a lot to me, coming from you. Your advice has helped (even if I haven't always followed it) !

The next iteration of wrong artifact is likely to be a closeup, with somewhat different lighting so the detail of the dodecahedron can be better seen.

Not much I can do about rendering volumetrics, since it requires biased methods which at the quality levels and size I need are insanely slow. Fortunately, my postpro has gotten better, thanks to deep learning (who needs an AI for that anyway? Go read a book. Kids, Gah! And stay off my lawn!) so I can still add in the lighting effects I want.

DGGOMP is concept illustration for the novel I got pulled in on. There will likely be more renders of that quality in the not too distant future.

I'm really glad everyone enjoyed the renders.

Oh, and Fletch, if you update the gallery at some point and happen to want to include that chase scene, feel free to contact me for the full size, since I couldn't upload it, even as a jpg

Ja ne!

I like these, especially the first one. Looks really mysterious :D :^:

You can render volumetrics by using Tech -> 2) Path tracing -> 05. Path Tracing - Progressive
It's a very good option to the biased methods for rendering volumetrics, but not without it's own little issues like tending to create a lot of specs, especially with shiny surfaces. I think those can be avoided by using more samples but I haven't messed around with that enough to know for sure. You might also want to run that for a few more iterations than you usually would with a normal raytracing method (like Easy 08 - Easy 11)to get a good result.

But yeah give that a try and see what goes :)

Thanks very much, Andrew! The compliments are very much appreciated, and the tip, well that's even more appreciated. I did not know about that kind of render being an option, as I've never really paid much attention to the tech renders, other than alpha mask and light pass. I am very much going to give that one a try. It may just save my sanity.

I'll keep doing my best with things. It's been a long journey learning this stuff, but worth it.

Thank you all for your continued support.

For your first image, the wine glass - the glass appears to be modeled too thick, or the material settings are strange.

Try downloading a nice wine glass model here:
