Modern Kitchen
Modern Kitchen
Hi guys,
A render from a project i was working on a few weeks ago. Still doesn't quite feel 'there' to me.
Any thoughts or suggestions welcome!
Cheers
Adam.

Re: Modern Kitchen
Not bad, you could increase exposure in post pro and/or have a lighter ceiling.
Re: Modern Kitchen
Looks pretty good!
I would fix the verticals, and maybe play with the sun brightness, give it some contrast, and color correction.
The blacks are too black. You should put blacks at 10% grey, not 0%. same with any color, 90%, not 100% saturation.
What do you think?

Re: Modern Kitchen
Thanks for the feedback guys! Really appreciate it.
Fletch - your version does look a lot better, yeah! Could I ask you what exactly you did to tweak it? And also what you meant by fixing the verticals?

Re: Modern Kitchen
I used photoshop Lens Correction to fix (straighten) the verticals and then a set of plugins by Topaz Labs for Photoshop, specifically "Adjust" by Topaz. There's a quick button called "Relative Contrast" which instantly improves many renderings.
Then "Exposure" adjustment layer in Photoshop to boost the bright areas to look more proper contrast with the dark areas of the image. Then a different "Exposure" adjustment layer masked over the windows to brighten the exterior to look relatively brighter.
Then a color adjustment to desaturate the image a little after all of the adjustments.
It sounds like a lot, but really about 2 mins.

Re: Modern Kitchen
Pretty good
Besides the things Fletch said, the back window looks really strange. Like as if there is no light coming through it, and I would expect to see at least a faint reflection of it on the cabinets and such but there is none. Just looks really odd to me

Re: Modern Kitchen
Fletch - thank you very much for the pointers!
RTD - cheers for the feedback - would you recommend a sky portal or something outside the window? The only external lighting in the model is the sun (and I suppose something from the background). I've seen quite a bit mentioned about using invisible emiters etc - do you think that would be the right way to go?
Cheers
Adam.

Re: Modern Kitchen
Adam,
Did you use "spherical sky" mode or "background image" mode?
I'm presuming "spherical sky".
I think what's happening is that your materials for ceiling, floor and counter tops are all too "flat" or "matte" and you could try something a bit more reflective/glossy.

Re: Modern Kitchen
Sorry for the slow reply on this! Haven't had much time to spend on this and just squeezed a few hours and renders in over the last few days.
Fletch - yes I used spherical sky mode.
So following all you kind folk's feedback I upped the brightness of the background, slightly increased sun strength. Upped pretty much all the surfaces' reflectivity (although the floor is on the 'polished concrete' template with 100% reflection it still doesn't reflect much! Still yet to look into what's happening there) and upped the exposure...
bit of set dressing and fiddling around with some post think I'm getting somewhere with it.
Again any thoughts or comments very welcome!
