Old Temple (Skatter/volumetric experiment)

Post by burkules » Tue Jun 25, 2019 10:37 am

Hi everyone!

Was playing around with twilight's volumetric lighting and Skatter over the weekend and made this chap.

It's just a making it up as I went along type thing, but quite pleased with how it worked out so thought I'd share!

Rendered on Easy 08 - Exterior, this is 79 passes (around 20 hours on 6 cores!) and a little bit of photoshop post stuff...

any thoughts or criticisms most welcome!

Adam

Hi Adam, cool concept! 8-)

I would recommend Easy 09, as Easy 08 is for scenes with a majority of direct lighting. Easy 09 is for all lighting, but great with scenes like yours.

Thanks Fletch!

I was under the impression that the volumetric stuff didn't work with Easy 09? Or am I doing something wrong with it?

You are correct, my mistake.   Yes, the Volumetrics Material Template is for biased methods only.

Volumetrics work with Easy 09 but require a different approach.

Oooh that sounds very interesting! What's the different approach to getting volumetrics working with Easy 09? Can you point me to anywhere I can read up on it?

Nice :gj:

I'm surprised it didn't take longer than that to render, I'm used to volumetrics taking forever :D And yeah I'd be interested in hearing how to approach volumetrics in the "interior progressive" methods. The only one I know for now is the "Path tracing progressive" which has it's own set of issues tho.

Looks like the implementation of volumetrics for unbiased methods is not fully developed in the engine, and was therefore not implemented into Twilight.
