Silent Sentinels

Post by tuna57 » Tue Jul 23, 2019 8:28 pm

Some more of my crazy experimenting. Been playing with this off and on for a while. Think I got something worth posting. :! Rendered Easy 9, 100 passes, 2200 px wide. About 12 hours on the iMac. Post pro with Affinity.

Some of the details..... The "sentinels" - Deep Material > Ashikhmin 2 Reflection Stainless Steel , " Ribs and Spine" of the tunnel - Deep Material > Ashikhmin Titanium1 , Rock texture - Advanced Reflection > Concrete Mapped.

Lights - Four Point Lights at "camera end" of passage. Point Light in the head of sentinels and the small red lights in the base of the sentinels. End off passage has a sky portal , sun is turned off, sky colored an orange tone.

It took some experimenting to get the lighting to suit me..... Still not 100 % happy with my rock set up ..... trying to get a look of all the rock being uniformly wet..... bunch of experiments so far haven't got quite what I'm looking for :wall:

You are getting some simply stunning 'atmosphere' in your renders and the rest as we all know, comes down to tinkering. You put me in mind of Simon on the other forum, it sometimes takes several 'looks' to see the detail that makes it stand out. Much to think about with your renders. :hat:

Spookychick would like this one! :)

I hope you develop this one it's really great so far. I think it's really a floor material test scene, but the floor in this shot is too dominant when there's so many interesting things happening here.

Fletch , as always thanks for your input. Got to agree with you about the floor texture , thought it would work using the same texture on the floor and walls . Not quite the effect I was hoping for. Plan to do some more experiments with textures and lighting... will see how it goes :^: .

I was just commenting about the camera placement/framing of the shot, sorry that comment wasn't well written.

O.K. Makes me curious , what your thoughts about the camera view are, i.e. placement etc. I sort of think this type of render would improve with the use of some mild D.O.F. . Trying some test shots with some different rock textures and tweaks to the lighting to see if I can really "push it over the top". :^: Always appreciate your input even if it seems that it hasn't "sunk in" . :^:

or the other way - if you want to keep the full tunnel, this would be another option?
