I downloaded an hdr and a exr from that site and I can see the advantage in GIMP. I can adjust exposure and other color enhancements easily and keep a crisp image without bad side effects. attached is an image from Twilight that shows black in GIMP.

It looks fine when opened in Photoshop.

The image works in Picturnaut (an HDR image viewer) and in HDRShop. But you are right, it does open black in Gimp. Which is weird because when I render a simple image, it opens fine in Gimp.

When I resave the image in HDRShop (with no editing, just resave), it opens fine in Gimp. So there is definitely a conflict of some kind between Twilight Render and Gimp. I have no idea where the source of the problem lies however. This wouldn't be the first time something didn't act correctly in Gimp. At the same time, we are using the FreeImage library and there could certainly be an incorrect setting somewhere.

I'll see if I can find another editor and if that makes things work more nicely. I think there is an advantage in PP here. I like the control I have seen with other HDR in GIMP. In addition, I can experiment with compositing different exposures from Twilight. Thanks for checking this out!

I found the same thing in Photomatix Pro. Open and save, and it can then open in GIMP.
