Version 2 or 2.5?

Post by Muggle » Fri Feb 07, 2020 8:56 pm

Really bad about checking for new versions on my plugins, but did so this afternoon with Twilight. I am currently using the pro licensed V2, and yet I do not see any of the new materials - ie velvet, that they are speaking of. I also saw where v2.5 was mentioned, but on checking the downloads section of the website, all I see is v2? What am I missing here, and how do I correct this please?

Twilights materials are a godsend, and I would like to be able to try and use the new materials I am reading about.

Thank you.

Twilight Render is on V2.14.5.

When we refer to V2 or Twilight Render V2, we mean the entire V2.x.x product line. So any V2.X.X is essentially considered V2.

We strongly recommend you update to the latest version.

Note that some materials require a Pro license. Off the top of my head, I don't know if Velvet is Pro or not; it may be.

Chris wrote: Fri Feb 07, 2020 7:36 pm We've uploaded a new release, 2.14.5.

This release fixes several issues with importers, including texture problems on macOS and external proxy problems with SketchUp 2015 - 2018. It also fixes a bug with the Material Editor's procedural edit window.

In addition to the above fixes, we also added some great new features!
  • Import by Proxy - This is an addition to the Import Options when importing an external model. This will create a point-cloud representation of your model and use it as a proxy for the full model. This method loads much faster than a full import but provides you with a better sense of position and scale than an external proxy.
  • Custom Templates - In the TWR Material Editor, under Templates, you can now save the current material configuration as a "Custom Template" to be able to reuse it later.
  • Sky Projection - (With huge thanks to Tim Rawlinson for his initial work on the projection math!!) This material template allows you to make your landscape or ground plane a "projection" of your spherical sky. By setting your Environment to use a spherical sky and matching the same settings for the material, your ground plane will blend in to your background while still capturing shadows and caustics!

Hard to know whether I am up to date though, since all I see when I check my version is V2 and that's what I see when I look at the available downloads for Twilight as being the most recent version.

I guess it won't hurt to just download what is there. The worse will be that I am just replacing what I have with the identical version, or not, but I don't know until I do it.

Thanks.

Your version number is listed under Extensions -> Twilight Render V2 -> Options, on the About page.

Indeed, but that's what I meant. It says V2, but is it V2 or V2.1, since it has none of the additional material options mentioned here?

All those materials are for Pro users only. You will need to activate a Pro license (and upgrade to the latest available version, 2.14.5) in order to use those.

Hmmm... I paid for my version of Twilight and have an activiation/license key - I thought that was the pro version? And forgive me for asking again, but I don't see where on the downloads page it says whether it is v2 or v2.14.5. Totally confused at this point, so I have downloaded what they have there (Mac) and will just see what turns up. :?:

Your license probably needs to be activated. You should have received instructions on how to do that when you purchased your license. Please let us know if you need that email resent (or email us at licensing at twilightrender dot com).

The current version number is on the upper right corner of the page that you screen shotted. It's currently listed as 2.14.3 though the actual version is 2.14.5, we just need to update the page text. As said before, "V2" is a blanket that covers all the 2.x.x releases.
