Quad modeling...
In your experience, when opening holes on surfaces do you think it helps if we give them more geometry for not to have those annoying "artifacts" when softening? And avoiding we add some coplar edges!?
If you are interested in learning quad modeling you will need to understand the importance of proper "topology", that is how to set up the lines and divisions of each quad along the surface to flow and terminate in a way that results in the best surface.
Here is a great link
demonstrating good quad modeling topology before and after applying the subdivision surface modifier (You can use SubD plugin for SketchUp, it's the closest thing we have in SketchUp to a true "modifier" that can be enabled and disabled)

Any requests for light fixtures you need most for your images?
Here's one with a powder coated iron finish.
