Courtyard - Townsquare

Post by tuna57 » Sun Jun 07, 2020 9:51 pm

A challenging bit of rendering and post pro practice. Rendered on Easy 8 with a spherical sky jpg image. Rendered at 2251 x 1206 , 200 passes. Seven hours running 8 threads on my iMac. Post pro Gimp and Affinity. Spent quite a bit of time tweaking on the textures to get them to my liking.
Used an alpha mask to put in the sky image post pro. Also used an alpha mask of some of the trees to better control the final results . Was a good challenge for my pretty basic post pro skills.

Very nice, Tuna! The textures are looking good.

If you're asking for input to make it better - it needs something in the foreground, and the textures need some ageing from top-to-bottom or foreground-to-distance. Tire ruts, etc. Most SketchUp trees are just... :(

Thanks Fletch. Again always appreciate your input ..... even if I ignore it in my stubbornness  . Need to mess about with this some more. I do agree with your comments... the "road " surface does need something "more", Want to work on "refining" some of the textures. Not sure what to do about the closest trees... used the better of what I have in my parts file. But know I don't want to add stuff in the foreground ... artistic license you know  .

Well finally got another run at this. Changed out a few textures and added "dirt maps" in the Deep Material Editor to give a little more aged look to things. Biggest change was to the three trees closest to the camera. Put new leaves on them. Used a .png image of the individual leaf. Was quite the job getting all those leaves in place ! Between the three trees there's around 200,000 of the little buggers. Was sure making SketchUp choke :whoot: . Twilight handle the heavy model and a whole lot of textures very well I thought. Just a little slower on "building the environment" when starting the render. Render times didn't increase much considering all the crap I threw at Twilight this time around :^: . Oh... and look close Fletch got his chickens  . :hat:

To prove how crazy I am... after posting the second image... got looking at it and something didn't seem quite right in the colors. So here's hopefully the final go at this.... a little tweaking in Affinity. Better worse or am I just crazy or tired :! Maybe a little both :totgm: .

 vastly improved.
I can almost hear those chickens - and the dog walking across the road. The lighting and textures looks great. Trees are much better.

I wish only for better tree trunk - especially here.
