I have been thinking of 3d art for a while, in terms of wall hangings in particular.
This is a wall panel I downloaded and cleaned up. Once I had a big enough panel I imported a simple picture to map ont the topographic face. Reasonable result there but the elevation change is over about an inch and seems not that well defined, I think like the base of a skirting board it may need to be exaggerated The equivalent of raising the skirting board a quarter of an inch for example, to increase contrast for the shadow to define the geometry.
As an aside, any Fleetwood Mac fans here? No? Shocking. They released a new album last year and I am listening now. As good as ever, imho of course.
Stay well folks.

Interesting study Mike. Guessing that a low relief piece of art would need some pretty creative light set ups to really make it “pop”. Multiple lights some at “grazing” angles to the piece ?

Thanks mate, I think you are spot on, unless the geometry is well oversize, it can be difficult to just 'see' it. Drawing board while I search for some race car vibes.

The geometry has been enlarged and lights (Recessed) added. Much closer to the intent.

I think it’s a cool effect your shooting for. Almost needs to be the focal point with lighting adjusted to really make it pop. Unfortunately I suspect not every observer will “get” it.

Thanks mate, I think this is the right way to go for the effect so will stop here. The only thing I might consider is both up AND down lighting to bring the geometry into more stark relief.
One light here rather than two.

That last image is looking pretty good!
There is a red cast on the walls likely from some over-saturated textures/colors in the scene?
ps - regarding your Fleetwood Mac question... yes.

Ta mate, oversaturated texture, yes I agree. Wood perhaps benefit from an adjustment or three. Punny too.
